Production Collective / Since 2015
Founded at the Communication University of China, LAB of Shadow is a filmmaker-led production collective developing fiction, documentary, experimental, and animated work. Guided by Professor Yu Ran and sustained by an expanding alumni network, LOS connects emerging creators with crews, production resources, funding, collaborators, and practical mentorship, moving projects from early concepts into completed films. Since 2019, its shorts have been presented annually through Cannes' Marché du Film and selected by festivals including Shanghai, Busan, London, and Sydney; eight new works reached the Cannes Short Film Corner across 2024 and 2025. Members are now developing feature-length projects with investment partners, while Sequence Film Lab extends this production pipeline through international distribution and industry connections.
Sequence Workshop develops filmmaking through guided practice. The programme brings directing, screenwriting, cinematography, performance, editing, and producing into one collaborative process, helping each participant move from an initial idea toward a completed screen work. Through practical exercises, screenings, and candid experience-sharing from working filmmakers, participants gain a clearer understanding of how projects and careers take shape. The workshop also helps emerging filmmakers identify their strengths, explore possible roles, and chart a more informed direction for their professional development.

Sequence Film Lab supports emerging filmmakers in reaching more advanced and ambitious film-education platforms, helping each student identify suitable programmes and complete every stage of the application process. Building on a strong record of successful admissions, our support brings together portfolio development, project presentation, written materials, interview preparation, and strategic school selection. The aim is not simply to submit an application, but to help each student present a coherent creative identity and enter an environment where their filmmaking can continue to grow.
